Georgina Van Welie
Georgina Van Welie is a theatre producer, director, adaptor and dramaturge based in Paris. Co-founder of Sabab Theatre (2002-2012), she has worked with some of the most prestigious performing arts venues in the world: The Royal Shakespeare Company, Riverside Studios, Shubbak Festival (UK), The Kennedy Center, BAM, Arts Emerson (USA), La Comédie Française, Bouffes du Nord (France), The Holland Festival, Warsaw Festival, Attiki Festival Greece, Tokyo International Arts Festival, Seoul Performing Arts Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, Sydney Festival, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Arts Foundation, Sharjah Biennale, Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah Kuwait, Cairo International Theatre Festival, Le Tournesol Theatre Beirut, Fejr Festival Tehran.
She is currently working on a bilingual Arabic/English diptych adaptation of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida and Measure for Measure. The showcase premiered at Columbia University's Paris Center February 2025.
Georgina also works as a film co-writer, credits include Whose Country (directed by Siam Mohammed, BBC Arabic Best In Journalism Award, Chicago International Film Festival Best Documentary) and previously worked as a script editor, credits include The Bill by Damian Wayling (BAFTA new writer nomination).
She is a Board Member and contributor for The Markaz Review.
Georgina is a graduate of Cambridge University. She is a founder board member and trustee of the Jeannine Manuel Bilingual school in London and is an advocate of bilingualism in education.
